Two popular winter-sun routes have vanished from Budapest's departures for months. Wizz Air has cancelled its Amman flights, with the earliest bookable departure on 27 October, and taken Abu Dhabi out of the schedule until 11 January; the flight-tracking community Budflyer spotted the cancellations and Roadster reported them on 2 October.
What is behind it
On 30 September the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) amended its conflict zone bulletin on Jordan, valid until 16 October. The agency advises airlines not to fly into Jordanian airspace because of rocket and drone attacks connected to the armed conflict, the operation of air defence systems and falling debris. The airline has not given a reason for the longer Abu Dhabi cancellation.
If you hold a booking
- The airline e-mails affected passengers; check the booking's status in the Wizz Air app or on its website, not only in your inbox.
- Under EU rules a passenger whose flight is cancelled chooses between a full refund and rebooking; Wizz Air usually offers the refund as credit or as money back.
- Both cities remain reachable with a connection on other airlines; current departures are on our flight information page.
- If you booked a car park or a hotel near the airport for the cancelled flight, ask the provider to move it; most secured car parks rebook free of charge.
