The streets of the Vecsés housing estate, right beside Liszt Ferenc airport, have been full for years: the town's leadership counts about 25 per cent more parked cars than three years ago, and the spaces are now practically all taken. At the residents' forum of 18 September 2026 the mayor, Szlahó Csaba, presented the answer: a residents' parking scheme starts on the estate in February 2027.
Who parks here besides the residents?
The council named four groups that treat the estate as a free airport car park:
- travellers who leave a car for days or weeks while they fly;
- commuters, for whom the estate is an unofficial park and ride;
- car-sharing companies that leave their fleet here;
- car rental firms that store cars on the public street between hires.
What changes
Under the draft presented at the forum, a household's first car parks free with an annual registration, the second costs 24,000 forints a year and the third 48,000. Cars kept on the owner's own plot, in a garage or an underground car park do not count towards the household's allowance. Each household gets one free visitor disc, good for three hours in the daytime; evenings, nights and Sundays are unrestricted. The shopping strip gets short-term, one-hour parking.
The scheme is expected to start in February 2027 with a three-month trial: warnings first, fines after.
What it means if you drive to the airport
Three daytime hours do not cover a flight, and once the trial ends a car left on the estate gets a fine. If you arrive by car, choose among the secured car parks around the airport: they can be booked ahead, a shuttle takes you to the terminal, and the prices are usually below the airport's own car parks. We keep the current prices and free spaces on our parking page.
